Join us for film screenings & talks
We are proud to host the screenings of two powerful ArtDocFest programs exploring the fates of those displaced by war or affected by repression — Shadow of War and Realities of War.
These screenings are about fostering deep, meaningful discussions. Each day, we will engage with filmmakers, journalists, experts, and audiences to reflect on the realities these films bring to light.
Shadow of War
Inspired by the eponymous Moldovan film, this collection features stories of Ukrainian refugees who found shelter in Moldova, as well as those from the aggressor country who, despite rejecting its crimes, face exile and condemnation.
From Moldova to Georgia, Armenia, and beyond, these films capture personal struggles with displacement, identity, and survival. Stories like K’nerek, and Alex & Galya reveal the complexities of forced migration, political repression, and human resilience. These films shed light on the deep shadows cast by war — on homes torn apart, lives uprooted, and identities challenged.

Realities of War
War is often seen through images of frontlines and destruction, but its reality runs deeper. This program explores how Russian authorities manipulated society for years through propaganda films, tells the story of a young woman imprisoned for anti-war activism, and delves into the unimaginable grief of a father who lost his son.
Beyond these stories, a series of short films from France, Switzerland, and Germany offer diverse perspectives on war’s impact. Through these lenses, the program reveals the many ways conflict shapes lives far beyond the battlefield.
